Residents of Cedar House in Stockton will benefit from the upgrade which will “transform” the living conditions, according to owners Thirteen.
Equans has been appointed to carry out the work, with completion expected by the end of the year.
The project forms part of Thirteen’s Capital Delivery Framework.
A wide range of communal upgrades will be made, including installation of a new communal kitchen, heating and ventilation systems, an upgraded lift, new fire alarm and CCTV.
The work will also include fresh decoration, new flooring, improved lighting, and replacement of windows and doors.
Rubie Dixon-Lee, investment area manager at Thirteen, said: “We’re committed to investing in our customers’ homes.
“This is about investing for the long-term to create a comfortable place where residents can enjoy living and feel proud to call their home.”
She added: “Providing homes that suit our customers’ needs now and in the future is our priority.
“Accommodation like this at Cedar House, with the added support of a living well coordinator, helps our customers to continue to live as independently as possible.”
Darren Sterling, regional director at Equans, added: “We are delighted to be working with Thirteen on this project.
“Sheltered accommodation like this provides a great support to many people, and the communal spaces provide so much opportunity to grow positive connections and personal wellbeing.
“We are very pleased to be carrying out this work which promises to make a real impact for residents at Cedar House.”
